Why PETJA exists
More than once I have walked out of a vet's with my best friend's collar and lead in my hand, and an enormous emptiness in my chest.
You carry it to the car held against you as if it were still something, and when you get home you put it in a drawer because there is nowhere else to put it. And there it stays.
I created PETJA so that would not be all you take with you. So you leave with something of theirs that you can see every day.
Because there is something of theirs that really is theirs.
Not a photograph or an illustration: their pads, their grooves, the exact size of their paw. Every paw print is different, just as any of ours is.
That is why I work with veterinary clinics. So that at that moment, the worst one, you can leave with something more than their collar: their paw print, taken right there, before you say goodbye.
It can also be taken long before. Any Tuesday afternoon, on the living room floor, with them lying next to you not quite understanding what you are doing. If you want to see how it is done, I have explained it step by step in this guide.
You do not have to wait until you need it.
Curvy's paw print, my bulldog's, is framed in my house. I walk past it every day. I know exactly what it feels like to look at it.
I do this on my own, in Barcelona. I make every print by hand, one at a time, and check it before it goes into its box. They go to the homes of people who want to keep something of theirs, and that is why I don't let anything leave that I'm not happy with.
That is all. There is no other reason.
Just the idea that, when the day comes, you can take with you something that is still theirs.
